Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Kadın/Woman 2000, Journal for Women’s Studies (JWS)

Please read the Publication Policy before sending a letter to JWS.

Make sure that you satisfy the following conditions:

  • The manuscript has not been published before,
  • The composition of the manuscript complies with the journal’s publication principles
  • There are no direct – or indirect – references to the author(s) in the body of the text.

When submitting the manuscript, also include: a letter of application;

  • A title page (including title, subtitle (if any), name(s) and surnames,
  • institution(s),
  • ORCID iD,
  • contact information and e-mail addresses) of the authors; and an abstract in Turkish and English including keywords.

Publication policy

Published biannually (June and December) since 2000, Kadın/Woman2000, JWS welcomes articles and discussion papers with a primary focus on gender at the inter-sections of race, sexuality, culture, class, nationality. Articles from interdisciplinary perspectives are encouraged. We welcome the work of academics, independent researchers, artists and for/non-profit organizations. The journal also publishes notes, conference announcements, reports and reviews, and book reviews.

2) Copyright

Kadın/Woman 2000, JWS only considers previously unpublished work. The Publisher maintains all the rights of publication for manuscripts accepted for publication by Kadın/Woman 2000, JWS Editorial Board, EMU. While the Publisher holds the copyright, authors may use the published work in other publications as long as they cite Kadın/Woman 2000, JWS as the original publication. The ideas, opinions, assumptions, theses or arguments in the articles belong to their authors. The views expressed in published work should not be understood to represent the views of Eastern Mediterranean University or the Center for Women's Studies.

3) Reviewing Process

  1. All manuscripts are blind-peer-reviewed by at least two referees.
  2. The evaluations are confidential and remain with the editorial.
  3. When submitting revised manuscripts (following peer reviews), authors should include clear and concise reports indicating the changes made and link those changes directly to the referee proposals.
  4. The Editorial Board may request corrections and sugeestions on the manuscript before it is sent for publication. These suggestions will be shared with the author(s) before publication.
  5. Referees are expected to submit their evaluations within 6-8 weeks.

4) Length

The length of the manuscripts should not exceed 7000 words including footnotes and bibliography.

5) Plagiarism

As an ethical principle, the manuscripts submitted for evaluation are screened for plagiarism. All the manuscripts sent to JWS are scrupulously investigated against any allegations of plagiarism or abuse either published or in evaluation process . Investigations are conducted on the published articles and, when necessary, the institutions of the authors  are informed.

6) Writing Rules

  1. Manuscripts should be sent electronically in Times News Roman 12 font with two line spacing throughout – including figures and tables prepared in accordance with the publication guidelines.
  2. Turkish articles should be based on the Spelling Guide of the Turkish Language Association and Turkish words should be used as much as possible instead of foreign words. When new and unfamiliar words in Turkish are used, they should be placed in parenthesis in Turkish and English in their first use. English articles should consult the Oxford English Dictionary and annexes as a reference.
  3. Manuscripts should be submitted with title page, main text, references, annexes, tables, figure titles, figures, author notes and correspondence address.
  4. The title page should contain the title of the article, which consists of a maximum of 10-12 words (maximum 50 characters with spaces between words), the authors' name and surname, title, institution and ORCID ID number.
  5. The main text should start on a new page.
  6. References and authors referred to should be referenced as follows: (Author’s surname, publication year, and referenced page number, (Brown, 2003: 23).
  7. Additional information about the text should be given as endnotes at the bottom of the page.
  8. Tables and figures should include numbers, headings, and the source (references). Headings should be placed above tables and figures, and references should be written below.
  9. Authors are requested to submit the text, tables, and artwork with the manuscripts. If there are pictures or drawings to be included in the manuscript they should be sent with the manuscript. The pictures should be numbered according to their order in the article and should include subtitles. They should be shown as Figure 1 and Figure 2 in brackets.
  10. The manuscript should be divided into un-numbered subsections written in small letters and bold. The secondary subtitles should be written in bold and italic.
  11. Equations should be given sequence numbers. The sequence number should be in parentheses and on the right side of the page. If the derivation of the equations is shown briefly, the derivation process should be shown on a separate page with all steps to be given to the referees.

7) About Funding

Any sources of funding or financial support by any institution should be identified in the manuscript before publication and with the date and amount of support. Authors are expected to supply all details regarding funding.

8) References and Bibliography

All references used in the text should be given in alphabetical order starting on a separate page under the heading “References”. Each reference should include: Author Surname, Name (Year of publication). Book name (in italic letters) or article name, Journal name (in italic letters). Book names should be written in italic, article names should be written in normal letters and journal names should be written in italics. In addition, citations from unpublished sources should also be cited in a way that is clear and unambiguous.

For referencing and citation issues not mentioned above, please consult the APA 6 guide.  Manuscripts that do not comply with these guidelines are returned to authors for corrections. Manuscripts that are not approved by the Editorial Board are returned to the author with their original tables and figures, if any.

9) Publication Charges

There are no submission fees, publication fees or page charges for Kadın/Woman 2000, JWS.

10) Open Access

 It provides open access to all issues of Kadın/Woman 2000, JWS excluding the last three years. Every year in January, a new issue will be made available through open Access.
