The Effect of Gender on Occupational Choice of University Students: Case Study of Yozgat Bozok University Sociology Department

When countries' job markets are examined, it can be observed that the professions are classified according to sex. What is meant by professional dissociation is that women or men are more concentrated in certain occupations. In terms of the patriarchal point of view in the labor market, related to vocational selection, it is the case that the jobs are divided into two as male and female job. In order to reveal which factors were influential in choosing the sociology department, this study aims to draw a framework in line with the data obtained through the semi-structured face to face with interviews with 120 sociology student; 75 woman and 45 man. The findings show that sociology students' opinions on the profession are gender related and they accept gender stereotypes regarding the profession.
