Unutma, Anımsama, Yok Sayma ve Pazarlık Üzerine: Anıtsal Bir Heykel Olarak Barış Kızı Heykeli

Asya Pasifik Savaşı (1932-1945) sırasında hâlihazırda sömürge ülkesi olmasından dolayı kadın “temin” etmenin kolay olduğu ülke Kore kadınları çoğunlukta olmak üzere sayıları yüzbinleri bulan Doğu Asya kadınları Japonya’nın askeri üslerinde seks kölesi olmaya zorlanmış, sistematik tecavüze ve şiddete uğramışlardır. 1990 yılında ilk kez Koreli Kim Hak Sun’un bir TV programında konuşması ile yıllar süren suskunluk bozulmuş, bu şiddete maruz kalmış birçok kadın konuşmak üzere öne çıkmıştır. Bir özür ve tazminat hareketi ile yola çıkan “comfort women” olmak zorunda bırakılmış kadınlar büyük destek görürken; bu destekler kendilerini ve yaşadıklarını temsil eden heykellerle ulusötesi bir harekete dönüşmüştür. Makale söz konusu heykellerden ilki olan Barış Kızı Heykeli üzerinden bir temsil mekânının toplumsal ve bireysel hafızada etkisini hafıza, mekân ve temsil mekânı kavramları üzerinden tartışmayı amaçlamıştır. Bu bağlamda makalenin temel argümanı heykel sanatı ile bir temsil mekânı yaratılabileceği ve bu temsiliyetin toplumsal hafızayı şekillendirmek üzere kurgulanmasının mümkün olduğudur.
